Le pont de Cân Tho revêt une grande signification tant sur le plan économique que sur les plans social, politique, de sécurité et de défense pour le Nam Bô oriental, le delta du Mékong et tout le pays. The 15.85km long and 23.1m wide bridge has four lanes for vehicles and two lanes for pedestrians. It links Binh Minh district of Vinh Long province to Cai Rang district of Can Tho city. It was built by domestic and foreign contractors, including Taisei, Kajima and Nippon Steel (TKN) of Japan. The project has a total investment capital of US$342.6 million sourced from Japan’s official development assistance (ODA) and the Vietnamese State budget. Masayyuki Karasawa, director of the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC), says Can Tho is comparable to one of the five largest bridges in Japan and one of the 10 longest bridges in the world.
