HA NOI — Viet Nam held meetings with its trading partners in Geneva, Switzerland on Wednesday in anticipation of multilateral trade talks regarding the country’s entry into the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The eighth round of talks, which will focus on the country’s goods market and services access, will begin on June 15, Vietnamese Ambassador to the United Nations Ngo Quang Xuan told the local press.

Responding to the media’s concerns about what impact the country’s late start in beginning negotiations might have on the process, ambassador Xuan responded that Viet Nam still had time to get through the entire process.

"Negotiating to become a WTO member requires us to work with many partners," he said. "We have to depend on countries that are very different from one another. We have tried our best," he said.

In order to join the WTO as planned, Xuan underscored the need to conclude negotiations with as many countries as possible. — VNS
