German lawmakers boost ties with VN

HA NOI — Viet Nam has always considered Germany an important partner and appreciates the support given by the country to Vietnamese people in the past years, said Nguyen Van An, chairman of the National Assembly, on Tuesday.

An made the statement while meeting the German Parliament delegation led by Susane Kaster, Deputy Speaker of the German Parliament and President of the Federal Association of German Tourism Industry.

Hundreds of Vietnamese have been trained or have worked in Germany, and the visit by the delegation would contribute to furthering relations and co-operation between the two countries, An said.

Germany is the largest business partner of Viet Nam among the European Union nations, contributing nearly 30 per cent of the total import-export revenue between EU and Viet Nam, he said, adding that there is scope for improving German investments in Viet Nam.

The parliaments of the two countries should boost co-operation and share mutual experience of legislation and supervision.

Promising to maintain regular exchanges, Kaster agreed further co-operation in various fields.

During their visit, the German delegation will inspect a German-funded project and visit a resettlement area for war victims in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue. — VNS

It has a library that provides books on a wide range of subjects and covers contemporary cultural, social and political life of Germany.

"The institute is a place for open discussion and will help in greater understanding of people and cultures of both countries. It is also a place for expression and will promote young Vietnamese artists and intellectuals of all persuasions," said Franz Xavier Augustin, director of the institute. — VNS
