Paris (VNA) -- A "Viet Nam - Sea and Boat" association made its first public appearance  in France during the 2004 boating sports exhibition held in the premises of Versailles Palace from Dec. 4-12 with the aim of encouraging Viet Nam's junks and strengthening the friendly ties between Vietnamese and French sea lovers.

The establishment of the association began with an idea of Nguyen Xuan Hung, a French resident of Vietnamese origin. Being a water sport lover, Hung has made great efforts to find and study various kinds of Viet Nam 's boats, including junks and sail boats.

Speaking at a seminar on Viet Nam 's economy and tourism held in Marseille in October this year, he also pointed to the great potential of Viet Nam 's sea area and expressed his wish to encourage the sport of sailing in Viet Nam .

With a total coast line of more than 3,500 km, Viet Nam's sea is one of the most attractive destinations in Southeast Asia for those who love water sports and yachting, Hung said, adding that he can talk at length with his French friends about Ha Long Bay, which has been recognised as a World Heritage site, and the central coastal area with numerous archaeological relics of the Cham civilisation.

Through tourism, he said, the association will call for exploring, studying and protecting Viet Nam 's sail boats and junks.

The " Viet Nam - Sea and Boat" Association plans to organise a mission to Viet Nam to study documents and make a survey of junks and sail boats which should be restored.  It will arrange a survey of the landscape by boat in 2005.-Enditem
